The Guest Bedroom

For our first home, we feel pretty fortunate to have 3 bedrooms.  This allows us plenty of room for our guests who come into town and perhaps *one day* the third bedroom will become a little nursery!  As you may have figured out...we did not take a lot of "before" (or quite frankly many "during") pictures of our house remodel.  I could kick myself now...of course...at the time I had NO idea I would be writing a blog...and I certainly did not realize how much we would actually be doing on this house, until it was too late!

So...picture if you will...a small room with pea green carpets, half the ceiling ripped out (apparently the former owners were big into starting projects, but never finishing them), decrepit wall paper and an overall awful cigarette stench!  Nice huh?

I actually took an interior design class a couple years ago and our final project was to create 3 storyboards.  So this bedroom's design came from this initial inspiration:

And yes...I am a nerd for still having them!

Here is the finished product!

It's a little hard to tell but there are some fun prints going on here.  Leopard, floral, stripes...and some fur!  The leopard Euro Shams are Ralph Lauren, the standard shams are Target and the fur throw is from World Market.  The lamp and nightstand are both from Target.  The bedding is from Macy's.  I have NO idea where the mirrors are from!

I adore this poet's desk.  There was a furniture store called "Furniture in the Bare" down in Newport Beach and you bought the furniture and then could stain it any color.  I've had this desk since high school!

The chair is World Market and the pillow is from Pottery Barn.  The curtains are actually from Walmart!  I'm thinking I may need something in higher up in this corner...thoughts?

Here's a close up of the bedding!

I should mention that absolutely everything in this room is new...new carpeting, drywall/paint, windows, moulding...etc!  It would be great to have a headboard one day...we shall see!

And of course...the smallest room just happens to have the most spectacular view!

So there you have it!  It's a cute little room...and definitely on the Shabby Chic side.  I think when I transform it into the next room it will be much more modern...so I better enjoy it now while it lasts!

You can see some of our other recent transformations here, here & here.

  14. Thanks for all the great comments!

Laura-the paint color is actually called "Navajo White" by Kelly Moore. But it picks up on hues in each room, which I love! :)
