Subdued Master Suite

If I had been able to talk to my newly married self 3+ years ago, I would have advised against browns in the master bedroom and gone for gray instead.  Gray is my favorite neutral...it's so elegant and sophisticated to me.  My preference would be to have a big fluffy white duvet {which is crazy talk now that we have a baby and dog}, some interesting throw pillows and an awesome upholstered headboard.

I put together the above mood board just to give myself a glimpse of what could be.  Can't you imagine it with some deep gray paint on the walls and a twinkling chandelier hanging over the bed?  I just want to cozy up and spend all day in that bed.

What do you think of this color scheme?

iHeart ikat!

Happy Hump Day Readers!

Today, I thought I would share a post that I wrote for Michaela's beautiful blog a little while ago.  I talked about one of my favorite trends in 2011...so far!  I've had a major obsession with ikat for some time now...and I don't think it's going anywhere anytime soon!  In fact, I'm seeing it everywhere and not just on home decor products...but in the fashion world as well!  There is something so beautiful about the bold and colorful patterns...I just can't get enough of it!  I'll show you what I mean...

Ikat looks great as fabric on chairs...loving the chevron rug too.

 Another example in pink...

 or mustard!

What about as a fabulous print on a dress!?

These Anthro bowls are uber versatile...I want one in every color they come in!

I love ikat on the curtains and pillows...the two compliment each other perfectly, don't you think?

Also as a tablecloth...love this idea for a party!

I love this little lamp...I think I need it!  :)

And I'm pretty sure I need this J.Crew purse...the ikat is subtle and lovely.

Ikat and succulents?  Perfection!

For those of you that know me...you also know how much I love scarves...this one is so SO pretty!

Isn't this final space stunning??  There are many things to love about this space, but certainly the ikat stool is not to be missed.

So...what do you think about ikat?  Will you be adding it into your home or wardrobe anytime soon?  I know I will!  :)

Modern Baby Nursery

A very dear friend of mine asked me to help her design a modern and chic nursery for her baby girl Ryan, who is due in July.  Of course, I was thrilled to be asked and happy to help her.

She recently painted the walls brown and has white trim and closet doors.  Her vision is white nursery furniture and she likes the idea of gray and purple accents with ruffles and a shabby chic feel.  She wanted a mature feeling that the baby could grow into.

Knowing Mama's already sophisticated taste, I wanted to compliment the rest of the house, by making Baby Ryan's special.  This is what I came up with:

I wanted to incorporate the shabby chic elements of the white furniture and delicate chandelier, but I had ton a of fun incorporating the modern elements, such as the fun lamp and graphic pillows...plus, you know you know I love a great furry pillow.  In order to tie in the brown, I brought in the zebra inspired rug which will evolve with Baby Ryan through all her years at home.  My favorite print in the room is this West Elm chair...absolutely loving this print and feel it's whimsy enough for baby but able to grow into something more mature down the line.

And just for a little extra touch, I would love to incorporate a cute print like this:

So what do you think?  Do you think Mama and Baby Ryan will approve?

I'm especially happy to show off this space during cornflake dreams blog crawl:

Be sure to check it out!

Do You Turtle?

I've been to a couple flea markets in my day...and I've seen a good amount of different and eclectic things, but the one that always stands out to me is the elusive {and faux I might add} turtle shell!  I've seen them as a design element in a house or two, and I have to say, I think they're pretty cool!  Different-yes, but super cool!

 All images above and below {via}

Before anyone jumps the gun here, I just want to make it clear that I, in no way, accept or condone the harming of any animals, let alone turtles!  But to be able to display the resin version in your home  to admire their beauty, seems like a great way to celebrate them.  If you must have an authentic shell, then please do your research and find a reliable source to purchase a naturally shed shell.  This is a humane practice and allows the digntity and respect of these animals to stay in tact.

I think the architecture of the shell is just so beautiful and unique.  Kelly Wreastler designed this restaurant at The Tides la Marea in order to display them.

Something a little more subdued...

I've also seen them on stands...which looks great on a bookshelf or even on a side table, perhaps behind the sofa?

I am a fan of hanging 3 of them in a row, as opposed to one singular one.  However, this space is truly lovely and eclectic.

Ballard Designs had these resin turtle shells about a year ago....unfortunately, they are no longer available.  I've not seen this design element go viral...so it's definitely a special treasure to find one.

Let me know...what do you think?  Would you ever consider display turtle shells in your home?  I think if I lived by the beach, I would definitely be interested.

Green with Envy!

Seeing as today is St. Patrick's Day, it's only appropriate to talk all things "green" and beautiful!  However, since I recently did a green color inspiration post here, I thought it would be fun to show off some of the St. Patty's day styles I've been seeing around blogland...and boy are there some beautiful posts today!

Gabriella at A Life Worth Living showed off a green bouquet with a little DIY tutorial.  I must say, the mix of green florals is quite beautiful!

Erinn's lovely blog Strawberry Swing and other Things has been featuring the prep for her St. Patty's Day Party and I have to say, I would have flown across the country for these delicious looking cupcakes!  They mint chip ones have to be my favorite!

Julie featured these awesome DIY leprechaun spirit bottles on her blog, Love, Julie  and I think they would be a great party favor, don't you?

I say...if you're going to go all out, then this is the way to do it!  I am simply loving the mix of patterns in this room that Aubrey featured over at All Things Bright and Beautiful.

Nothing says St. Patrick's Day like these green clovers Anne posted on Princess Anne County.

If I put on 20+ pounds tonight, then it will surely be Michelle at Ten June's fault!  How deliciously amazing does this cake look???

There are so many things I love about this room that Wendy posted on her blog, Desire to Decorate, and being green is only one of them.  I just love that stunning starburst mirror and gold coffee table.  And that rug is awesome!

See what I mean?  No need to reinvent the wheel here!  There is tons of inspiration out there today!

Hope you all have a great St. Patrick's Day today!
