Schue Casa: The Front Sitting Room Mood Board

The last time we talked about this room, I was planning for it to be a formal dining room. Since we've now lived here for over a year, we have a much better understanding of how we use each room. The front room is currently set up with our old sectionals {see it here!} and even though it's not super ideal looking, it's proven to be very functional for our family! We love drinking coffee there in the morning, reading a book in the afternoon or having a glass of wine with company in the evening. It's got a great view of trees and mountains and it's a nice room to escape to!

I've been searching high and love for a couch and accent chairs that will be both attractive and comfortable. We LOVED our olds sectional from Macy's...in fact, we have a smaller version in our upstairs media room. The back is supportive and it's great for lounging/watching movies. I am probably crazy for wanting a white couch but since I'm *hoping* this will be more of an adult space, I am thinking it will be ok. This is another white couch that is crazy inexpensive!

I've also been on the hunt for accent chairs...and while I wanted something more structural, I'm not sure that the lack of comfort will be worth it. Some of the accent chairs I've been looking at...this, this and this! However, I love the height on the ones above and how comfy they look to curl up in.

Last, the rug looks like a dramatic choice but I keep reading how it's gorgeous and versatile it is for most any room. I don't think it's as bold in person, but it will definitely add warmth to the room.

Now to save and start chipping away!

Recent Purchases + A Wishlist for Schue Casa

We've been settling into our new home for the last two months or so and it's taken everything I have to not go absolutely nuts trying to buy and fill the house! A couple recent purchases we've made:

+ A leather couch, that we found for quite the deal! It's almost identical to the Article version and super sturdy! We also got this couch, which faces the fireplace and I find extremely comfortable {my husband is less enthused about it and prefers the leather couch!}.

+ A new area rug {such a steal!} and throw pillows to round out the living room!

+ This new floor vacuum...total game changer!

+ These barstools...love how clean and simple they are.

And for the items on my wishlist...

For our bedroom:

+ A fun juju hat for over our bed.

+ A new dresser to fit the wall opposite our bed.

+ A bench at the foot of our bed.

For Ethan's bedroom:

+ A headboard, like this and a new duvet cover.

For the playroom/media room:

+ A comfy couch! Will definitely wait for a sale on this one though...

Living Room:

+ Would love a fiddle fig leaf fig tree...just not sure if we should go with a fake one or real one! I've heard Costco has a great deal on real ones. This one is supposed to be the gold standard for a faux tree.

+ Two chairs to round out the seating. These are amazing dupes for the Target version that is now sold out!

+ Love this console, or this one for less!

+ Adore this oversized mirror

Sitting Room:

This room will be one of the last ones we'll tackle, but I've got plans!

Thanks for letting me document my thoughts for future plans!!

Shopping for #SchueCasa

Life has been pretty crazy these days with back to school and the big move! We're starting to settle into the new house and I've already started dreaming of ALL the fun things I want to incorporate into this house. Patience is definitely proving to be a virtue!

Our sectional from our last house was too big and not really the right layout for our new family room. We've ultimately decided that two couches would better serve the space. We took the plunge and ordered the gray couch above, but it's kind of like the...if you give a mouse a cookie game...that keeps on going. So next I am eying the leather couch! And then a new area rug! And then a new ottoman! You get the picture! The game never ends!

We also invested in new bar stools for our kitchen island. We were looking for something with backs, easy to clean and also attractive. I really love how these contrast with our cabinets and make a little bit of a statement!

Other things on our long list...a new dresser for our master bedroom, a couch for the playroom/media room and figuring out what to do in the front room {dining room or sitting room??}. So more to come!

House Updates!

So sorry for the radio silence around here! We just got back from a family vacation and the house is moving at a rapid pace! I am not sure exactly what to share {if you want to see more, follow me on Instagram and check out my #schuecasa stories!} but I do want to try to document some of the process!

The exterior gray is Cityscape by Sherwin Williams, which is the perfect gray, in my opinion. It looks great in direct sunlight and also looks phenomenal in shade. So many grays can go too blue, purple, green or brown and this gray just looks very true to a dark gray.

We decided to paint the door Iron Ore by Sherwin Williams and plan to install this door handle. Some other fun choices include this doorbell button in brass, these house numbers, and this exterior light.

I am truly in love with our master bathroom. We decided to splurge a little bit here and I'm so happy with how it turned out!

Our wood floors are laminate and we really love them! They are 10 inches wide, water proof and extremely durable! They are by Mohawk, the Antique Craft line in Soft Chamois.

For our great room, which is right off the kitchen, we went with a two-story layout which helps to make the space feel much bigger and was a good compromise for going with a main floor living floor plan. Ryan is outlining where the wood mantel will go, which I am hoping will look something like this

Ah! And here is a sneak peek of our kitchen, which I am SOOO excited about! I always knew I wanted gray cabinets but was really drawn to this more green/gray color. Ryan wasn't as sure, at first, but we're really happy with how they turned out We ultimately decided to go with with white upper cabinets to keep the space light and airy.

Here are some details:

Cabinet Lower Color is Evergreen Fog by Sherwin Williams
Cabinbet Upper Color is Pure White by Sherwin Williams
Wall Color is Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore

The hardware was a hard choice! We ultimately decided to go with these pulls {in various sizes, depending on the drawer size} and these knobs. The backsplash is a herringbone tile with white grout...and I love it! Inexpensive, but classic!

The downstairs bathroom will serve as the main floor bathroom as well as the guest bathroom {hooray for having guests again!}. Here is what we chose for this room:

There are so many more details to share but hey, this is a start! I hope to plan more, including an overview of the floor plan.

Happy Monday!

Design Showcase: A Sweet Nursery

Basket + Rug {also here! Love this one too!} + Unicorn Rocker {on sale! }

Hi Friends!

Sorry for the longer than usual silence. I've been in a kind of "blogger mourning" since I heard the news about Polyvore going away. Polyvore was the website that I used for creating all my design boards. It was easy and comfortable and I've been kind of paralyzed by the shift...to the point that I was unsure if it made sense to continue this blog! But...then as fate would have it, a sweet reader, Ashley, reached out {thank you for those of you that continue to tune in!} and asked if I was still open to doing design work.

As a back story, I did free design boards a while back to help stretch my creativity and create content. I was really happy to hear that Ashley wanted my help in creating a space for her daughter's nursery. Of course I jumped at the chance {and loved creating a space for a little girl!}. Here's what she emailed me:

I have been a follower for awhile and wanted to see if you would take a stab at a room design--I know you used to do them all the time and I love your style!! I am expecting a baby girl in August and really need to get started on the nursery. It is already painted but nothing else is done. We painted it Behr "Mortar" - a light grey with little hints of sage/seafoam green.

The furniture we have so far is the Babyletto Scoot Crib in white and the West Elm Graham Glider in dove grey. Both are ordered but have not arrived yet! Also, that vintage toy chest you see there was my husband's and we would like to work that in as well and are open to refinishing/painting it.

I was hoping to use greys, whites, and blush pink with pops of seafoam green and gold. As you’ll see I’m torn between a neutral rug and a colorful rug. I like a neutral room with pops of color!

Challenge accepted!

I love the light gray walls and the idea of reusing her husband's play chest. I actually don't think that it needs to be refinished at all since there will be a lot of white and wood tones in the room.

This was my first attempt at the design...

My good friend has this rug IRL {it looks funny here but trust me, it's gorgeous! See examples here + here} and I think it will add just the right amount of color without going overboard! This is another version of this rug with a bit more muted colors.

The artwork is so cute and help ties the color scheme together.

Also, Opalhouse at Target is really perfect for nurseries. There are a ton of adorable options {don't tell anyone but I am not a huge fan of the line for myself, but could totally get behind using it for a nursery!}. This elephant basket is another example and would be so cute as a clothes hamper!

Once I sent the design board over, Ashley asked to see a more neutral rug and different art over the bed.

Rug + Artwork

I made a quick swap, which I love for a more subdued look!

So now for the decision!

I'm so glad our mama-to-be is happy with these design options! I hope she sends pictures so we can see the final product!
