Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas Eve everyone! We're hosting dinner tonight with a yummy cioppino...the tradition continues! I thought I would catch you up on all of the holiday happenings around here!

Our Christmas card this year!

Home Alone and Wilson...who's definitely on the good list this year!

Wyatt's room is finally coming together! And I think I want to keep that little tree up all year!

We went down to Southern CA to celebrate with my side of the family earlier this month...and the boys got to visit with Santa!

This time last year, our house was being built and we envisioned having a big tree up in this corner. It's very magical to see it now...in all it's twelve foot glory!

Matching PJs are the best! You can find these there here!

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!!

Gift Guide: For Him

Can you believe we're less than TWO weeks out from Christmas? Ahh! Where is the time going? We just got back from celebrating Christmas down in Southern California with my family, and it's gotten us majorly in the spirit, not to mention both kids wishlists have now doubled with ideas on what they want! #oops!

On to the men's wishlist...the hardest one IMO...

Electric Corkscrew Wine Opener: How handsome is this wine opener? Perfectly masculine and functional! Win-win.
YETI Duffle Bag: Airtight, waterproof and submersible? What man wouldn't want this bulletproof carryall?
Menorah Socks: Because honestly, these were the best print of all the J.Crew men's socks.
Bose Wireless Headphones: So he can run with the dog and not get tangled up with the leash!
HydroFlask Low Ball: So he can drink on the go? Or keep it cool wherever he goes? Ha!
Single Malt Glass: So he can drink in style...at home.
The North Face Fleece Vest: For the man who runs hot, but needs a little warmth!
Shun Chef's Knife: The ultimate knife...super sharp and worth every penny! We have this brand and swear by it.
TOMS Slip On Shoe: On my husband's wishlist this year...easy to slip on and off!
Herschel Supply Co Wallet: Because he can always use a new wallet!
Billabong Board Shorts: A good reminder to escape the cold this winter!

And just in case you missed it...

Gift Guide: For Her

Happy December and Happy Full-Swing Holiday Season!

Today's gift guide is all about the gals! Whether you're shopping for yourself, your wife, your mom, your sister or your friend, I've got you covered! I have first-hand experience with many of these wishlist items and know any woman would be thrilled to receive something on this list!

Velvet Headband: I have this headband in black {so safe, I know!} and love how it can instantly make an outfit feel a bit more festive and/or fancy! I am definitely thinking I need another color!
Slip Pillowcase: Ok, this is definitely more of a luxury item, but hey! When they say it has "anti-aging" benefits, who can argue with that? Personally, I'd love to try it out to avoid breakouts and hair breakage!
Terez Sparkle Leggings: I mean, how fun are these??
Barefoot Contessa's Cook Like A Pro: I love love love me some Ina Garten, so naturally her latest cookbook is on my wishlist! It makes for a great hostess gift too!
Cookbook & Tablet Stand: How pretty is this stand? Perfect for my new Barefoot Contessa cookbook or for whipping up a dessert a la Pinterest!
Laura Mercier Mini Eye Collection: I luuuurve Laura Mercier caviar sticks and think this would be a fun way to test out other colors. But, to be clear, the "Burnished Bronze" color is the best!
Mini Circle Belt Bag: How fun is this alternative to a crossbody bag or a clutch for going out? Definitely need this!
Madewell Fringe Earrings: I love how delicate these statement earrings are! And all three colors are perfection!
Krisin Ess Flat Iron: I've had my flat iron since college, so I'm due for a new one. This one gets rave reviews and is under $100!
Baggu Pouch Set: The best bags for makeup, carryall for your purse or keeping your jewelry together while you travel!
EMU slippers: I just got a cheap pair of these to try out, but can imagine using them more as house slippers during the summer. Cozy, but not too hot!
BRYEDO Gypsy Water: Ok, this is a splurge for sure, but hear me out! I have the Mojave Ghost scent and get compliments everywhere I go. Random people stop me at CVS...or at work...or at the airport! It's that good! And yet super subtle. I never notice it while I wear it and I'm always surprised others can smell it. Worth every penny!

Happy shopping!

Gift Guide: For the Kiddos

Yay! My first gift guide of the season!

This one is for the kiddos...who seem to get harder and harder to buy for each year! Especially brothers or sisters who are relatively close in age...they both seem to want the same thing! So this year, we're opting for more gifts they can share!

Magna-tiles // We've had Magformers before, but many times when I pick Wyatt up from pre-school, he's playing with these magna-tiles! I think both boys would enjoy playing with them. And as a bonus, they're on sale right now too!
Moon in my Room // Ethan's been into space a lot this past year, so I know he'll love this moon that lights up and shows the different phases of the moon!
Lite-Brite Magic Screen // A cult classic! I remember playing with this as a child!
We're All Wonders Book // A sweet book about "choosing kind".
The Incredibles Action Figures // With the recent release of Incredibles 2, this is sure to be a hit!
Patagonia Hooded Puffer Jacket // Wyatt could definitely use a new jacket {poor kid mostly gets hand-me-downs from Ethan!}.
Nintendo Classic Edition // Another cult classic that I know the boys will love!
Instax Camera // The boys always love taking pictures with my iPhone so I would think this would be a hit!
Wooden Cash Register // Every now and then, the boys really get into playing restaurant where one will be the waiter and the other will be the cook {and we are the customers, naturally!}. I think they would love this play cash register!
Indoor Trampoline // Ethan wrote a letter to Santa requesting a trampoline. Unfortunately, this time of year doesn't lend itself too well to outside jumping so I figured this indoor version would do! And there's enough room for both boys!
Wireless Microphone // My boys are BIG hams and I just know they would love performing on our catwalk with the help of this microphone!

Recent Purchases + A Wishlist for Schue Casa

We've been settling into our new home for the last two months or so and it's taken everything I have to not go absolutely nuts trying to buy and fill the house! A couple recent purchases we've made:

+ A leather couch, that we found for quite the deal! It's almost identical to the Article version and super sturdy! We also got this couch, which faces the fireplace and I find extremely comfortable {my husband is less enthused about it and prefers the leather couch!}.

+ A new area rug {such a steal!} and throw pillows to round out the living room!

+ This new floor vacuum...total game changer!

+ These barstools...love how clean and simple they are.

And for the items on my wishlist...

For our bedroom:

+ A fun juju hat for over our bed.

+ A new dresser to fit the wall opposite our bed.

+ A bench at the foot of our bed.

For Ethan's bedroom:

+ A headboard, like this and a new duvet cover.

For the playroom/media room:

+ A comfy couch! Will definitely wait for a sale on this one though...

Living Room:

+ Would love a fiddle fig leaf fig tree...just not sure if we should go with a fake one or real one! I've heard Costco has a great deal on real ones. This one is supposed to be the gold standard for a faux tree.

+ Two chairs to round out the seating. These are amazing dupes for the Target version that is now sold out!

+ Love this console, or this one for less!

+ Adore this oversized mirror

Sitting Room:

This room will be one of the last ones we'll tackle, but I've got plans!

Thanks for letting me document my thoughts for future plans!!

For Your Furry Friends

If you have a feline friend at home, you know how challenging it can be to find attractive + modern items for them. We've always opted to let our cat lay on a soft throw blanket versus try to find a bed that we like. Enter: Tuft + Paw. I love their aesthetic and think it would fit in with any home...or least be something you aren't embarrassed to hide when you have company. They even have attractive litter boxes!

Our cat loves being cocooned in her new bed

And on a pup note, thank you for the well wishes regarding Wilson. He's on the mend, but it's got me thinking we should probably invest in a new (attractive) bed for him too. I've had my eye on this gorgeous ticking stripe bed!

Special thanks to Tuft + Paw for partnering with me on this post!

5 Coats to Get You Through Fall

Oh the crisp fall air and the chilly fall mornings! We are experiencing the best part of fall right now, with our mornings starting out in the 30s and rising all the way to the high 70s by the late afternoon. The leaves are changing and yet it's still nice enough to enjoy the outdoors. I love this time of year!

It's also the time of year that I dust off my coats. I've been eying a couple new ones to add to my closet...

A work colleague was wearing this bouclé coat the other day and it SO cute! And priced super well too. Just can't decide between the dusty rose or the black!

While not quite a coat but definitely warm enough for chilly mornings, I would love to dress this leopard number up for work and tone it down for the weekends. Plus, did you know that SHOPBOP is offering 20% off with code STOCKUP18 at checkout!

Velvet is so rich for the holiday season! I love the emerald green on this festive jacket

The teddy bear coat is SO hot right now! I have one from last year and love it! This will also score you 20% off at checkout with code STOCKUP18!

Last, a good puffer is always a go-to during the cold months. I love this color too!

And just to reiterate the SHOPBOP sale and some great finds...I'm loving this shearling jacket, this sweater coat and this sherpa jacket (this too!)! Don't forget code STOCKUP18 at checkout!

Shopping for #SchueCasa

Life has been pretty crazy these days with back to school and the big move! We're starting to settle into the new house and I've already started dreaming of ALL the fun things I want to incorporate into this house. Patience is definitely proving to be a virtue!

Our sectional from our last house was too big and not really the right layout for our new family room. We've ultimately decided that two couches would better serve the space. We took the plunge and ordered the gray couch above, but it's kind of like the...if you give a mouse a cookie game...that keeps on going. So next I am eying the leather couch! And then a new area rug! And then a new ottoman! You get the picture! The game never ends!

We also invested in new bar stools for our kitchen island. We were looking for something with backs, easy to clean and also attractive. I really love how these contrast with our cabinets and make a little bit of a statement!

Other things on our long list...a new dresser for our master bedroom, a couch for the playroom/media room and figuring out what to do in the front room {dining room or sitting room??}. So more to come!

Favorite Fall Neautrals

Ahhhh fall!! While I'm always sad to see summer go, I must admit, fall is my favorite season of the year! The changing leaves...the cooler, crisp air...the holidays! What's not to love? Oh, and the fashion! It's cool enough to layer up but still warm enough to bridge from summer!

Neutrals include green and leopard in my book...what about you??

Back to School: 1st Grade Edition

Ethan starts FIRST GRADE one week from today and I just can't help but noticing how he has become this gangly little kid overnight! I swear he was just born...and now he's this big FIRST GRADER! I mean, where does the time go??

We find out who Ethan's teacher is this Friday with a little ice cream social. He's really excited to go back to school {and I am really excited for him to go back and have some structure again!}.

Back to school shopping was always a fun event when I was in elementary school. Funny enough, I do 99% of our shopping online now so it's not quite the tradition it once was but we cannot wait to get our packages in the mail! ;)

The House Colors We Picked!

Picking out paint colors is HARD! There are literally a billion options of each shade and depending on the lighting, it can show up VERY differently in your space. That being said, we did our research and I feel really good about our choices...so I'm here to share them today!

We painted our door "Iron Ore" by Sherwin Williams. It a pretty true black with just a touch of charcoal. I like the way the matte black handle is just a shade darker too!

The exterior gray paint is "Cityscape" by Sherwin Williams and as I've said before, I really feel like it's a "true" gray. Not too blue, not too purple, not too brown, not too green...it's juuuuuust right! See it here in full sun...

And at dusk! See, still looks great!

Now this is a fun, chameleon color...depending on the light, this gray {"Evergreen Fog" by Sherwin Williams} can look very green or blue, which we LOVE actually. We went with a matte paint, which is kind of risky for a kitchen 😬 but we love how it absorbs the light!

We came down to these three options. Our good friend {hi Tiara!} went with "Rare Gray" on the far right and so we knew we loved that color. "Retreat" was gorgeous too but perhaps a bit too dark/bold. So "Evergreen Fog" seemed to be the perfect medium, and still a bit of a risk for us! I'm so glad we went with it, we truly LOVE it!

More examples of how it changes with the light...

Also, the upper cabinets are "Pure White" by Sherwin Williams.

The rest of our house...including walls, trim and ceilings...are all painted "Chantilly Lace" by Benjamin Moore. I researched a lot on this color...like I said, there are a billion white choices! But I love how it turned out. And while I was worried about how it would go with the upper cabinets, they seem to compliment each other well.

Last, I picked different wall colors for the boys rooms. Wyatt's room is "Greyhound" by Benjamin Moore. The lighting wasn't great for these photos but this gray in real life has a tint of blue to it which is really pretty, but still masculine. We went with "Light French Gray" by Sherwin Williams in Wyatt's nursery {which is a great light gray if you're in the market} so I liked having something a little different in this house.

Again, sorry about the terrible lighting, but this was a really fun color for Ethan's room. It's called "Narragansett Green" by Benjamin Moore and is super rich and dramatic in person! We went with a dark gray {"Serious Gray by Sherwin Williams} in Ethan's room in our last house and loved having the darker color in there. This room is substantially bigger so we knew it could handle a darker color.

So there you have it! Hopefully this was helpful and if you have any questions, leave them in the comment section!

House Updates!

So sorry for the radio silence around here! We just got back from a family vacation and the house is moving at a rapid pace! I am not sure exactly what to share {if you want to see more, follow me on Instagram and check out my #schuecasa stories!} but I do want to try to document some of the process!

The exterior gray is Cityscape by Sherwin Williams, which is the perfect gray, in my opinion. It looks great in direct sunlight and also looks phenomenal in shade. So many grays can go too blue, purple, green or brown and this gray just looks very true to a dark gray.

We decided to paint the door Iron Ore by Sherwin Williams and plan to install this door handle. Some other fun choices include this doorbell button in brass, these house numbers, and this exterior light.

I am truly in love with our master bathroom. We decided to splurge a little bit here and I'm so happy with how it turned out!

Our wood floors are laminate and we really love them! They are 10 inches wide, water proof and extremely durable! They are by Mohawk, the Antique Craft line in Soft Chamois.

For our great room, which is right off the kitchen, we went with a two-story layout which helps to make the space feel much bigger and was a good compromise for going with a main floor living floor plan. Ryan is outlining where the wood mantel will go, which I am hoping will look something like this

Ah! And here is a sneak peek of our kitchen, which I am SOOO excited about! I always knew I wanted gray cabinets but was really drawn to this more green/gray color. Ryan wasn't as sure, at first, but we're really happy with how they turned out We ultimately decided to go with with white upper cabinets to keep the space light and airy.

Here are some details:

Cabinet Lower Color is Evergreen Fog by Sherwin Williams
Cabinbet Upper Color is Pure White by Sherwin Williams
Wall Color is Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore

The hardware was a hard choice! We ultimately decided to go with these pulls {in various sizes, depending on the drawer size} and these knobs. The backsplash is a herringbone tile with white grout...and I love it! Inexpensive, but classic!

The downstairs bathroom will serve as the main floor bathroom as well as the guest bathroom {hooray for having guests again!}. Here is what we chose for this room:

There are so many more details to share but hey, this is a start! I hope to plan more, including an overview of the floor plan.

Happy Monday!
