New Kitchen Mood Board

Remember how a LONNNNNNNG time ago I told you that we bought the lot next door? Well! I am excited to tell you that we're finally starting to make some progress! We're working on plans with our architect and hope to break ground this spring. So naturally, I am pinning away {you can see all of my inspiration on my Pinterest Board} and I love thinking about all of the possibilities! It's also a bit overwhelming, so I'm planning to put some mood boards together to keep me focused! I hope you'll indulge me...and if you have any tips/tricks/sources, let me know!

As for my moodboard, some things to note: I always thought I wanted an all-white kitchen but have heard they're not practical with young kids + we live in a mountain community, so I think the above tones are more fitting. I am very interested in using Semi-Handmade for our cabinets {with IKEA, of course}...does anyone have experience with working with them? I'm debating floating shelves, around the sink or dishwasher just to break up the aesthetics. I love a white subway tile...but the question is how to place it? In a herringbone pattern? Also want to include lots of drawers...yes! Last, I'm thinking of going with a white quartz, but should we consider a darker counter color for the perimeter?

Here are some inspiration photos so you get a better idea of what I'm thinking!

  1. Regarding semi-handmade you need a lot of lead time. From start to finish it took 3ish months. While I like the idea of open shelves think about dust, etc. We lived without doors on our cabinets for a month and I felt like I was always dusting. I love the herringbone pattern and would have done it in our kitchen if we had a big space where you could really see the pattern, but then we went with 3x9 tiles. Love the idea of all white qutarz, but not with white subway tile. I think we'll end up with very similar kitchens ;)

  2. The aesthetic you are going for is sooo good! I'm a sucker for two-toned look, either in the cabinets or the countertop. I'd do it!

I love the idea of floating shelves, but unless you are anal about keeping them styled, I think they tend to look cluttered. Maybe consider what Michelle did and have a few cabinets with glass fronts to break it up?

Also, I'd advise against that sink with the rack at the bottom. Food gets stuck under there and it is a pain to keep the sink clean. Of course you can always remove the rack, but wouldn't buy it with the sink if you don't have to.

Can't wait to see this progress.

  3. Yay, how exciting! We are building right now too! I love your mood board. I will say that we currently have a white kitchen and love it. We don't have any issues with small kids ruining anything, so we are putting in all white kitchen in our new house too.

  7. super exciting! I'm a sucker for a two-tone or tuxedo kitchen. I still miss our last house! I'm doing all white on our perimeter cabinets in the new house, but a contrast island, i still think all white is on it's way out. Classic, but i think you are right on the nose with the new kitchen trend. Love the texture of the chairs too. Can't wait to see it come together!

  8. LOVE your choices! It sounds like we have very similar tastes. I ALWAYS wanted an all white kitchen too but I agree with young kids it's a no go. So we ended up doing grey bottom cabinets, white uppers, white marble countertops, and white subway tile for the walls for the entire room. You still get that clean feeling of an all white kitchen without the kids fingerprints on the lower cabinets always showing...
