Nursery Progress

Well, it's safe to say, I'm in full-blown nursery planning mode.  I realized that I've never had the chance to take a room and actually plan all the decor details out and then go full-steam ahead with putting it together.  Normally I'll work with existing furniture and piece it together...over time.  If there's one thing about having a baby on the way...the deadline is non-negociable!  I feel like an interior decorator, and my client is Baby Schue!  :)

Granted, a lot of this is still talk...we have a long way to go until we see a finished nursery, but I can at least show you what we've started!

First...we painted the walls!  It's "Light French Gray" by Sherwin Williams.  The actual paint we used is HGTV Home for Sherwin Williams in a satin finish.  It's zero VOC and odor free.  We chose this color because it was a very true gray...not too blue or purple like a lot of the comparables.  It's also light which keeps our 10x10 nursery light and airy.

And here is the crib we chose!

Many of you know that we were pretty stumped for a while...we asked for your help here, and got a TON of insightful tips and help.  Crazy enough, we went with a different crib all together!  We ultimately chose the Baby Mod Olivia from Walmart of all places!

It turns out that the price was great {just under $300}, it came with a toddler rail, and I love the two-toned wood.  It's also has non-toxic finishes, solid pinewood, and multi-levels for baby to grow into.  I was initially worried that these modern cribs would be too short for me and hubby, but in reality, it's a great height.  Since the rails are now stationary on all cribs, I am comforted knowing I can easily swoop the little guy up without worry or back strain.

Another detail you will notice is that we also got the mattress.  I 100% contribute this choice to Erinn...who had done extensive research on both the crib and mattress.  It's the Naturepedic No-Compromise Lightweight Organic Classic 2-Stage Mattress.  Her explanation is much more detailed than mine, so hop over if you're in the market for a crib mattress.

Oh and the little lion is from Anthropologie!  It's by Jellycat!  :)

Overall, I am super happy with the choices we've made so far!  I adore the wall color and crib!  We have a long way to go, but I have already ordered an area rug, rocker, decorative pillow and am about to pull the trigger on drapes.  More to come in the following weeks!

  1. How adorable!! Did you know there's a show on TV where this woman does interior decorating for celebrities having babies?! Her and her team design everything for the baby's room. It's a good show! I wish I could remember who broadcasts it for you but I don't! :/

  2. Aww, thanks for the shout out :) I love the wall color and that it's a "true" gray. I might have to use it in one of our baths because I've been having trouble finding a shade that isn't too blue, green, or purple too!

Love the crib and mattress (natch!) and the little Lion is too cute!

  7. Love the crib! Ours is a BabyMod from Walmart too! We also found out that they are made from the exact same company in the exact same warehouse as the Davinci cribs which are MUCH more expensive. They just change the name for Walmart! :)

Can't wait to see the rest come together!

I'd loved decorating our nursery, and felt the same way as you! Things happened a lot more quickly and the space came together in a way that made us both incredibly happy! I almost miss it... but I guess now that we're moving, I can maybe switch it up a little bit! :)

  13. I have to admit, I am so relieved you went with this crib. I got so overwhelmed with "I will never be able to afford a baby" when I read your crib post! I had no idea they could be so dang expensive! I also had no idea you could get one as adorable as yours for $300!

Also, the wall color is the PERFECT grey!

    Great progress, Natasha!!!

  24. Our office = potential nursery is also 10x10. I love the idea of a lighter color for more 'roomie' feel. I'll be very interested to see what you can fit in there and how you manage storage as I too will be watching for my future room... I think it will be so fun to start a room from scratch! xoxo A-
