Choosing a Headboard {and a mattress!}

Ryan and I decided that after five years of sleeping on a Californian King (a wedding present to ourselves) that we not only need a new mattress (there is a HUGE hump down the middle of ours) but that we want a traditional king sized bed.  The Californian size, while nice for a tall guy, isn't quite as wide.  With a toddler constantly climbing in our bed, the width is more valuable to us now.

Once we get our tax return back, we'll be in the market for a you have one that you love?  I don't know where to begin, but it's true that a couple minutes spent on a mattress in the store is not consistent with the long-term comfort.  So let me know if you have a brand/type of mattress that you love!

I also want to finally get a headboard and I have my eye on this one...

It's the Mia Wingback bed from One Kings Lane.  I like that it's modern and yet still a bit traditional.  I'm also leaning towards a head tufted headboard.  If you have one that you love, let me know in the comments!

Also, if you're looking for the COMFIEST, most amazing sheets, then you should definitely buy the pure beech sateen sheets.  They are so luxurious.  We love them!

Here's a mood board for what I would love our master bedroom to look like...eventually!

Headboard // Side Table // Lamp // Sea Salt Paint Color // Mirror {similar}
Pillow 1 // Pillow 2 // Pillow 3 // Moroccan Wedding Blanket

You can see the current state of our master here.

Thanks for your input!

  1. we have a similar bed and i LOVE it! xo jillian - cornflake dreams

  2. We made the jump to a king sized latex mattress this year and I'm SO happy. 100% natural latex, split in the middle so my husband and I can have different comfort levels on each side. Definitely not a cheap option but after having many regular spring/pillow top mattresses sink and compress in only a few years, we decided to go for it. As you are in the states, there are a lot of options that will ship to your house (I think Young House Love got one a while back). They also come all rolled up and small so easy to manage getting into your bedroom.

  3. Loving this mood board! I have that Target pillow and I looooove it!

  4. We love our king and there have been a few times all 4 of us have slept in it! Check out Target for headboards! I was searching Joss & Main non-stop and I love the winged back look, but the beds are pricy and so are just headboards compared to just regular tufted headboards. We got our king headboard online at Target, looks great and was significantly cheaper (esp for having to get a king)

  5. Having a king with two babes is definitely the way to go. Morning snuggles are our jam! and I'm looking into those sheets ASAP, we need new ones!

  6. Love the headboard/frame. We have a sealy that we actually bought from Costco three years ago and still love it.

  7. LOVE the bed and the decor inspiration!! We are in the market for a new bed, too, but I think it will wait until Louise's room is done...these kids are expensive. ;)

  8. Very serene mood board! I've been wanting a new mattress as well - lusting after a memory foam topped Sleep Number bed. J and I have such different preferences in bed type, so I really think something like that would hit a sweet spot.
