Road Trip with a Toddler // Tips Needed!

My brother's wedding is this weekend and we are driving down to southern CA for the big event.  Yes...driving!  Ahhh!  This is definitely new territory for us and I really have no idea how we will keep Ethan busy for 6+ hours.  Here are some of the things that we plan to bring along:

But what I really need, is your ideas!  So please share any tips or tricks you have up your sleeves.

Thanks in advance!

  2. We did a road trip with Shelby this past weekend and from your busy box link up I went out and bought a tin pencil box with those magnetic letters and it was a hit!!! Between that and all the other junk I put in the box(slinky, squishy that lit up, Mardi Gras beads and other stuff), she was entertained for over an hour!!!
I also broke out a Barbie I bought for her before she was born and that entertained for over an hour. I also bought this Tupperware type divided dish and always pack her a (snack box/lunch), she's able to hold and eat that. I fill it with cheese, lunchmeat, fruit and crackers.
    Good Luck!

  3. We have done a lot of traveling with our girls so they are little pros now. But my go to's: we try and leave right before nap or bedtime. I always pack a little snack to give them in the car right away and then it's nap time. For a road trip that long, I do easy to use activities. Like the you abc magnets, book and favorite toys. I also always get a little something new or at least grab a few toys from the bottom of their toy box that hasn't been played with in a while. I save it for when they start to get bored. Also, we always have snacks and drinks in easy reach. Good luck and have fun

  4. We drove 14 hours (each way) this summer and Cam did great...Ethan will be fine! I would put him in a night time diaper, put a movie on the iPad and count on a good nap! Six hours will fly by before you know it!! :) Good luck!

  6. C's dad lives 6 hours away, so Colton is a travel veteran :) What has helped immensely in the past is leaving at nap time to guarantee a solid 1-2 hours of sleep. Pack easy, no-mess snacks. Think cheerios, grapes, pouches, cheese string, pickles etc.
Madnadoodle, etch a sketch, crayons and paper, books(new or haven't been read in awhile), toys that require some kind of motor skills aka focus(shape sorter) and as a last resort - a new movie!

  7. http://www.buckletoy.com. Noah loves the turtle and used it on our road trip two weeks ago. We also looked up playgrounds to stop at about half way through the drive to let Noah play and run around. It worked out so well! Good luck!

  8. We have traveled several times with our girls. We plan to leave super early so they sleep still or around a nap time. We have traveled for 10+ hours and we always drive at night. The one time we drove 10+ hours during the day, books books and more books, a new baby, iPad with new puzzle games, card games (she LOVES matching) snacks snacks and more snacks and lots of carseat dancing. She did great. The husband was done halfway though and no amount of entertainment made him happy!
