Baby Ethan: Week 6

Weight: My guess is that Ethan is over 9 pounds by now.  He's chunking up every day!

Health: No real issues...other than the fact that his umbilical stump is still in!  I cannot wait for the day that we can finally tell you it is off completely!  And finally see the cute little belly button that's been hiding all this time.

{Wilson is always worrying about his little brother!}

Sleep: Ethan is starting to sleep 4 hour stretches at night, which is amazing.  I completely attribute this to the fact that he now gets baths before bedtime.  More on that in a bit.

Clothes: Our little chunker has moved on from newborn clothes and is happily wearing his 0-3 months!  He's also in 1 diapers now...*tear*!  He's growing up so fast!

Visitors: My best friend from college, Kelly, was in town this past weekend.  It was so nice having her visit...she's getting married in a few weeks, so I really valued her taking time out for a visit.

Diet: Breast milk!  'Nough said!

Baby Gear Love: This little guy still loves his cute swing.  He's also starting to enjoy books and toys now that he's more alert during the day.  We have a set of wrist rattles that I attach to his ankles and he kicks like crazy.  It's pretty cute.  Last, since we've introduced bath time, we love an all natural sea sponge {purchased at our local farmer's market, thanks to a tip from a sweet friend!}.  It's SO soft when it gets wet and the best part is that it won't collect mildew or mold.  Love.

{starting to get rolls!}

Crying: I really have to knock on wood {knock knock} because Ethan is such a sweet baby.  He really only cries when he's hungry or fussy from a dirty diaper.  He just hangs out most of the day and does SO well on lunch outings.

Likes: Baby boy loves his baths...he just sits and zones out.  So cute.  He is also enjoying floor time more and more.  Last, his favorite like {more like LOVE} is his daddy's laugh.  Ethan just lights up the second he hears Ryan laugh.  It is one of the cutest things I've ever seen.

Milestones: Ethan is smiling all the time now and we can't get enough of it.  It feels like our newborn infant is now a baby.  We love it!  And yes, E finally got his first bath!  Hooray!  As mentioned above, he just loves it and it mellows him out big time.  Definitely becoming a part of our night routine.

Postpartum: Well, it's the big 6 weeks...I can start to exercise now!  I am hoping to get into pilates and barre.  And perhaps start to go on more rigorous hikes!  My next doctor's appointment won't be until 8 weeks postpartum though.

PS...I'm starting to look into the best carrier for when we travel next month.  I have the Baby Bjorn, Infantino, and Moby Wrap, but I've heard great things about the Ergo...and it has an infant insert.  Thoughts?  Suggestions?

  3. Ethan is just darling!

    I have a Bjorn, moby and ergo; the ergo is the only one I ever use. Even now that my son is ~25 pounds, it's still super comfy and he still loves being in it.

  5. So cute! Growing so fast! He reminded me of Max in his transportation PJS (Max had that) and his tub (same tub). Weep! They grow fast.

    I used a k'tan (sp?) wrap and the Ergo. The Ergo is a MUST! (Although I don't have other carriers to compare it to). I mainly bought it for Erik because there are diff ways to wear it (but I ended up carrying him more, really), and I used the wrap mostly when he was younger. We did use the infant insert - it's great. I found that the Ergo is high quality and EASY TO USE. Which is key! We bought the organic material so I felt good about my Max being near it. Oh, also it has a "hood" ...so if he falls asleep you can snap the hood and he can just sleep. Super easy to use when out and about and traveling. (I didn't try the other positions yet besides the front).

    Finally, I used it until basically I got pregnant ...and I couldn't wear him anymore. So you can use it until they are "bigger"!

    1. I forgot to say we have a few slings and a bjorn. The Bjorn is easier than the slings but I'd agree it hurts your back after awhile, unfortunately. Though it didn't really hurt until he passed the 10 lb. mark, so maybe he's just heavy :)

  14. The pictures are adorable! He's got quite the expressive little face :)

    Campbell's cord took a while to fall off too. Our pediatrician used silver nitrate sticks to help dry it out and fall off since it was still on at 1 month. Maybe that is something to look into?

  18. Oh, Natasha this was so fun to read. I love hearing about him and how he is growing. And how cute is that with him zoning out in the bath. So happy you are enjoying and documenting all of it.

  19. Lil E is getting so big, and what a cutie he is! Having bath time before stellys last bottle was the ticket to her sleeping through the night, and also giving her a little massage with sleepy time lotion!I'm so glad to hear you can finally give him a real bath:)

  20. I'm a carrier junkie too! We have a bjorn, a sling and an ergo. I LOVE the ergo for over 15lbs. The infant insert is HOT! I think the bjorn is the easiest and most comfy for under 15 lbs. Hope that helps! Ethan is precious by the way!

  22. Hi Natasha! I don't know if you remember me from SLO but I dated Omar for a while and met you a couple times. I randomly found your blog and saw that our boys are just 3 weeks apart! I just wanted to comment first on how adorable Ethan is, congrats to you and Ryan!! Also, I use the Ergo for Walker. We bought it for my youngest step-daughter and used it for her from 6 months until about 16 months and she loved it. I bought the infant insert when Walker was born and I LOVE it. I can get everything done around the house for the days that he just wants to cuddle with Mom and it's been awesome for hikes, walks, farmer's market etc. Far easier than a bulky stroller. :-) SO happy to stumble on your little family and very happy for the Shue's!

  24. Oh.my.gosh! That picture of Wilson and Ethan is to die for! It makes me miss my golden, Kingston so badly (he is with my parents helping our other golden cope with some sadness after putting their other dog down). Don't you just love when they lay their head on you like that? SO sweet! Your little man is growing up - can't believe it's already been 6 weeks!

  25. Natasha, So sweet your little boy is. You're doing a great job!

    My thoughts on the carriers...we are traveling across the country next week as well. I have the Ergo with the organic insert (love) and the Bjorn. I'm choosing to use the Bjorn for when we travel though, and here's why: Finn is now fitting into the bjorn better and it works great for this age/size (11 weeks, 12 lbs), it's actually easier to get on than the ergo when you have to use the insert and as far as comfort, when they are still little the bjorn is fine. Now when he was tinier and for just around the house and little walks, I prefered the ergo because it fit him better. And when he gets a little bigger I'll be all about the ergo. For the plane and such, the bjorn for me is going to be the quick and easy way to go. Hope that helps! They are all so great to have around!

  38. Wilson is so sweet with Ethan! I have the bjorn, becco, and moby. Bjorn hurts my back... Not enough support. Becco has more support but is hard to get on and off alone. The moby is so comfy on my back but too hot for summer and cumbersome to Put on while out. I've hear great things about the ergo!
