Strawberry & Basil Grilled Gruyere Toasts

Ummm, by now, you all know about my love of cheese...and really anything basil & tomato alongside.  But have you ever thought of switching out the tomatoes for strawberries!?  It's genius...let me tell you.

Yes, this is the ULTIMATE grilled cheese appetizer my friends.  The Gruyère cheese is nutty and savory and the strawberries are so sweet!  It's the perfect blend of flavors and really a show stopper...no one will be sorry you served this at your next dinner party.

And with strawberries being in season...you can had the pick of the bunch!

Sauteing the basil in the batter makes this especially yummy!

Recipe adapted from The Bite Sized Blog:
  • Baguette, halved and grilled
  • 3-4 strawberries, sliced
  • ¼ lb gruyere, thinly sliced
  • Few leaves of basil
  • Butter

Slice baguette and toast on hot pan.  Meanwhile, add butter and basil and saute together.  Once bread is toasted, add basil butter and flip on pan.  Layer the gruyere cheese and strawberries and let melt {you can cover the pan to speed up the melting process}.  Add basil leaves and remaining butter on top.

I can't tell you how wonderful these flavors are...it was SOOO good!  :)

Hope you enjoy!  Bon Appetit!
