Baby Gear // Round Two

As we start to plan for baby number two, I've been thinking about both the necessities and the new things that have come to market since we had Ethan back in 2012.  It's really amazing how much can change in two short years...and of course I am a sucker for believing that we really need all the latest and greatest.  Here are the top items we're considering:

Double Stroller: We currently have the BOB which we love, but if we're going to tote around two kiddos, I think I like the idea of this City Select Baby Jogger.  I like how it stacks vertically versus having a double wide stroller.  And it can also convert to a single stroller, which seems like a win-win to me.

Glass Bottles: We LOVED Dr. Brown's bottles with Ethan and I really like the idea of a glass version for the second baby.

Eco-Friendly Diapers: Who can resist the adorable patterns on the The Honest Co's diapers?

Extra Large Drying Rack: We have the Boon Grass, but now they make an extra large version, called the lawn...genius!  And they also just came out with a narrow version, called the patch, for small spaces.

Double Video Monitor: We la la la love our video monitor and I'm debating getting the version with two cameras so we can keep an eye on both kiddos.

Baby Wrap: Everyone seems to be raving about the Solly Wrap...and I can hardly stand how cute those stripes are!

Easy Swaddle: We swore by Aden + Anais wraps with Ethan and wouldn't you know, that came out with an easy swaddle version not long after Ethan graduated out of them.  For sure getting one of these bad boys!

Diaper Bag: Our last diaper bag is totally thrashed, so naturally we need a new one.  I love this Marc by Marc Jacobs version.  It's chic and gender neutral, which will be nice for Ryan to tote around as well.

So mamas, what's your experience with your second?  Anything I'm missing?

  1. That's the diaper bag I got! It'll be a few more weeks before I put it to use, but I love it and can't wait to use it.

  2. Great picks! When it's time for us I also want the city select and the solly wrap!

  3. I have 2 little ones only 16 months apart and my experience isn't going to be the same as everyone else's but here's my 2 cents: we got a second camera for our monitor and although I don't regret it, I do wonder if my son still really needs to be monitored. We probably could have just moved his camera into her room. Also we stopped using a diaper bag when my daughter was born because there was just too much stuff. Instead we have a well-stocked car.

Good luck! It's so much work but so worth it when you see them interact and love each other.

  4. Girl, I have glass bottles (lifefactory, fit Dr.Browns parts), most never used. Shoot me an email, they're yours if you want them!

  5. These are awesome! I've never seen the easy swaddles, for sure getting those. I invested in the 4moms Mamaroo so that baby would hopefully be happy lounging in that during the times my 2 year old wants mama holding him, I have a feeling that's going to be the hardest for him!

  6. Love your list! We splurged on the Baby Jogger double for #1 and although we have only used it for 1 babe, it's pretty amazing. I remember digging through your pregnancy posts from Ethan's pregnancy when I was pregnant and you always had such good info. I can't wait to save all of these posts for when we embark on #2!

  7. We used the AA swaddle blankets the first time around too - I need to get that easy swaddle. Thanks for sharing that! I was never a great swaddler - my husband is the pro - this should help! We're also going to do a second camera for our monitor, even though my daughter is almost three. I just like knowing she's okay in her bed and hasn't gotten out and into mischief. ;) With the boon grass - have you had any issues with mold in the base? I was going to get one but then I heard that mold grows in the bottom. I'm guessing that hasn't been your experience since you're going for another.

  8. I have purchased many of these for baby #2! I already love the drying grass, wish I had it when Avery was a baby! A friend gave me the Solly wrap, I cannot wait to try it. It's so soft. We're still researching monitors. We have the motorola with three cameras but would really like one monitor where we could see the kids side by side. Just not sure if we want to splurge on that right away! I will say that I have had friends do the back to back stroller and wish they would have gone side by side. Mostly because they can't easily get to the child in the front and as the kids got older they didn't love it. We're still up in the air with the stroller situation as well though!

    1. After trying numerous, the double side by side is the BEST (26 and 4 months). We went with the double BOB but I think any siege by side would be okay. Perhaps it's just my kids but they both want to SEE and accessing storage is so much easier and my daughters are WAY happier!

  9. We have that stroller and it's heaven on wheels- LOVE. I also have that bag and although its cute and soft I like my kate spade one better. The big part is a little too big and items get lost in the obis...it would be better if it had a middle divider.

  10. Definitely getting that Lawn for bottles and those A&A Easy Swaddles as well! I love that diaper bag too, and I've heard great things about the City Select! :)

  11. With my first (and only), I used the Boba Wrap. I can't recommend it enough. It's super easy to use. No wrapping required. This was a lot easier than others I used, and much faster.

  12. Such fun ideas! We are having our second in 7 weeks so we've been figuring out what we need for two as well...I ended up upgrading my diaper bag to the Kate Spade Stevie (from the outlet). Love how roomy it is! We also went with the Baby Jogger City Mini GT Double in lieu of the City Select because for us side by side was much easier to maneuver with a toddler. I also invested in a gorgeous Sakura Bloom sling and am keeping my fingers crossed that the baby likes it! Having two hands available will be a necessity I'm sure:) So happy for you guys!

  13. Great list!! I just got the "patch" and love it!!! It doesn't take up so much space (but also doesn't fit as much). I just put it behind our smaller grass. I'm anxious to see what you think about glass bottles!! We tried, but failed with Cam. So exciting!!!

  14. Love my Solly it has saved me these first weeks!! Must have I say! That is the double stroller I am considering too! I love the option for the big guys to stand and ride too, the double bib just looks so wide. Still debating! Also I just bought another boon grass and made my own "lawn" kind of nice that I can stack them when I'm not using! So excited for you! Xo!!

  15. Girl we are on the same page! Have the boon lawn and happy that it can hold wine glasses and baby bottles! Win!! Also have that diaper bag (one of two because I just couldn't decide) and love how easy it will be to clean. You can literally toss it into the wash!

  16. You are going to love the stroller. We have it and it's been so great! The ergo has also been a lifesaver, you need those hands free with two. I also splurged on the Marc Jacobs baby bag (eliza zip) and I love it!

  17. I have heard great things about the City Select stroller, my cousin who has twins loves it. I just have my son, but when #2 comes I plan I getting that stroller.

  18. We have that stroller and love it! It's the one I brought along when we met up last summer!

  19. Oh girl. I can give you all kinds of advice. We got the City Select and love it but it's really heavy! I have such a hard time pushing it around and getting it folded up in my car. But all things considering (ie. the fact that you are toting around two babies so you need heavy s#$%!), it's a great stroller. Definitely do the double monitors, as well, we love ours.

  20. Um, we love all of these things too! This is such a great list!
