{OOTD} Work Days

It's funny how it goes, but for me, there is a clear distinction between work and play...especially when it comes to fashion.  While I tend to dress one way during the weekends (whether it be super casual or super fancy)...I like to have fun with my wardrobe during the week days...after all, we spend 40+ hours there a week!  Here are some of my OOTD's during the work week:

I normally would NEVER...EVER wear this color yellow (or should I say "bronzed ochre?)...especially in a pencil skirt!  But I was inspired by a fellow blogger Closet Chronicles and decided I just had to have it.  And really, I never looked back.  I love it.

Blouse: BB Dakota
Skirt: J.Crew
Watch:  Michael Kors
Tights: Who Knows?  They're basic black tights.
Pumps: Nine West

My second OOTD, is a casual Friday outfit:

{I apologize in advance for the "two hand hold" of the camera, but this is the only way I could get a clear shot!}

Side View!  This time it wasn't Mr. Whiskers...but Wilson!  I swear...those animals were just born to be in the spotlight!

Blazer: BCBG
Tank Top: LA Made
Scarf: Urban Outfitters
Watch: MK Watch
Skinny Jeans: !iT Jeans
Boots: Unknown Brand, bought at Savvy in SLT

How do you dress to work?  I feel it's a bit more of a challenge with the cold climate here...but I'm always up for ideas!

Cowboy Caviar

With all the football games going on right now, I thought it would be fun to share one of our favorite appetizers.  Cowboy Caviar is a great dip--something you can really wow your friends with at Super Bowl or as a starter before a dinner party.

  • 1 can drained black eyed peas
  • 1 can drained shoepeg corn
  • 3/4 cup chopped red onion
  • 2 avocados, chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • cilantro, chopped
Dressing:
  • 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
  • 1/4 cup light olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • salt and pepper to taste
Once you've chopped all the ingredients, add to a bowl and mix in the dressing.  Serve with tortilla chips (scoops are best!).

The end result is a delicious, crunchy, and highly addictive little treat...you may not have room for dinner once you've started in.

Hope you enjoy!  Bon Appetit!

A Piperlime Story

For awhile now, I've been wanting a simple gold bracelet to accompany my MK gold watch.  I've searched high and low and finally found the perfect match!  I had to have the Kate Spade "Heart of Gold" bracelet:

Perfection right?  So I asked my lovely husband to get this for my birthday but to my disappointment, it was on back order, until about February.  Well, I figured I could wait and had not seen anything better...especially for the price.

Several weeks went by and one day H got an email saying that our order had been canceled as they no longer had the product in stock.  WHAT??!  I was slightly perturbed that I had waited all that time for nothing, but no biggie...I would find it somewhere else, right?  Unfortunately, I searched and searched...and searched, but no luck!  Sadly, I decided to accept defeat and checked Piperlime.com one last time...just to make sure.  And there it sat: "in stock"...or so it said.  I didn't want to get my hopes  hope, but I decided to call--just to make sure.

The sales representative who answered the phone was SO nice and when I told her my story, she looked in their system and found out they did have it in stock!  She apologized profusely for the error...and offered a 20% discount plus free shipping!  YIPPEE!  I was super impressed with their service...I mean, I was just happy to be getting the bracelet after all!  I am definitely a fan...way to go Piperlime!

The bracelet came today and I love it!
The gold tones look great together and I think it dresses up the watch for the weekends!

And I really LOVE the way Piperlime packages their items!  Clearly I like green...

Had any good customer service experiences lately?  It's amazing how it can really make your day.

Golden Globes: What were they thinking?!?

I LOVE Award Season...all the dresses and glamour!  It's such a fun time of year.  However, I just don't understand these actresses who have stylists and a boat load of money and yet they wear dresses that are just so blah!  I was disappointed to see so many misses, but I'll start on a positive note.

Eva was stunning in Zac Posen...and good for her!  Tony Parker who?  She nailed it...and the back was equally as stunning.  Way to go.

I feel like this is kind of a given, but bravo to Olivia for doing the Golden Globes up right in this Marchesa gown.  I mean, if you're gonna go big, this is the way to do it.

This does not look like much on the red carpet, but on stage it was hot pink and super girlie and youthful.  Me likey!

This is not my fave, but Mila is so pretty and I think she pulled off the emerald green the best.  Vera Wang did her justice in this one.

Speaking of emerald green...what was Angelina Jolie thinking...

This color looks stunning on her, BUT that dress is just awful...it does not do anything for her and just looks cheap.  She looked much better here:

I know she always does black, but this looks so much more flattering on her and the emerald green earrings are perfection.  Great pop of color.

There is no question Halle is gorgeous and has a great body, but I just feel like this is way too obvious!  Less is more...less is more.

This is much more elegant and sultry.  Though, it was hard to find her in something more conservative...Halle likes to show off the goods!

I LOVE Lea Michelle...love her.  And I had such high expectations for her, but I was just so disappointed.   The color was wrong...the material was wrong...ugh and all that extra fabric.  No.  She looked so much better here:

LOVE this dress...great color and so cute on her!  She needs to stick to these silhouettes and embrace her youth!

Sandra...this was another disappointment...the dress just makes her look so frumpy and her bangs are way too 90's.

I just loved this dress...so bright and vibrant!  Don't you agree?

And the last one...really in my opinion the worst:

No no no no NO!  Wrong color...what's with the daisies...and are we 12?  I just don't get it at all.

I know she tends to go for things that are unexpected and THIS is the way you do it.  Loved this color on her and her hair.  She looked amazing here!

Overall, I loved the actual awards...there were great acceptance speeches...Natalie redeemed herself for the dress...that I was not so crazy about either.  Can't wait for more!
